ROA Mining Company
The ROA Coal mine is located in New Zealand. Situated on the West Coast of the South Island, 30km northeast of Greymouth, in the Greymouth Coalfield.
The unique nature of the ROA coal offers possibilities for end-users looking for a reactive, low volatile matter, low sulfur, low ash, and high carbon content hard coking coal.
The primary markets of our coal are specialty and foundry coke producers, activated carbon and other carbon-product producers, and metallurgical coke producers.
Processed coal is stockpiled at the ROA mine and then transported by road to the port of Greymouth, or to the rail loading facility at Stillwater, approximately 20km from Greymouth.
Greymouth can cater for ships and barges of up to 8,000 metric tonnes.
From Stillwater coal is transported 190km by train across the New Zealand Alps to the East Coast Port of Lyttelton, close to Christchurch. Lyttelton can accept vessels with a capacity to 65,000 metric tonnes.
To maintain high quality, transportation of coal to the ports is undertaken for specific cargo only. Great care is taken to avoid contamination at each stage of the transportation process.
